Save Money on Freight with our Wood Crates
The easiest way to save money on freight is to pack as much as you can into a small area. If you ship a lot of packages, you’ve probably noticed that UPS and FEDEX are starting to look a combination of the package size and weight in order to accurately price their shipping cost. You’ve probably also noticed that packages you receive from Amazon are arriving in smaller and smaller boxes. This is not by accident. Shipping air is expensive!
The same goes for trucking companies, logistics providers, and international shipping conglomerates. The key to saving cost on freight is to increase package density. The most efficient direction you can go with your freight is up! That’s why our unique shipping crate design can save you money – our wood crates are designed to stack!
Stack Eight – Save Freight!
For most of our crates under the standard 48 x 40 or 48 x 48 pallet footprint, the ideal stacking height is eight. Stacking eight crates allows us to achieve the lowest freight cost per crate. See the table for an example of stacking heights and freight rates to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Spartanburg, South Carolina, and Detroit, Michigan or navigate to our shop page to get your own up-to-date freight quote.
Luckily, you don’t just have to stack similar crates on top of each other to get the best freight rates. If you need four of our 48 x 48 x 48 crates and four of our 24 x 24 x 30 crates, we can just as easily stack those crate 8x high… or seven 48 x 40 x 24 crates and one 14 x 14 x 15 crate. It’s like a buffet, but for shipping crates.
Our larger crates such as the 60 x 48 x 54 and the 96 x 48 x 54 can be stacked 4x high to achieve a similar level of freight savings for the weight. Of course, smaller crates can be stacked on the larger crates as well.
Want to see how we can pack even more crates into a dedicated truck? Check out this blog post detailing how we fit 240 shipping crates into a semi truck and reduced the freight cost per crate to less than $6.00.

Stack Custom Crates
We can also stack our custom wood crates – contact us to see how much you can save! In the case where the height of the crate exceeds with width, shipping collapsed becomes difficult, as the side panels will overhang the pallet. However, in those cases we get creative! We may end up building a transport pallet that protects all the crate sides and then stack the pallet on top of the sides, creating yet another freight-saving pyramid.
Reduce CO2 Emissions
While saving money on your shipping crates is an obvious benefit, another very important benefit is that by consolidating your shipments into smaller units, you help reduce CO2 emissions. Don’t forget that all SharkCrates can be reused and can be fully disassembled and recycled!
