Standardized Shipping Crates

Creating a uniform crating solution for a company with multiple locations

A customer with multiple locations in the southeastern US contacted us about standardizing their crating process.  At the time, each location was building shipping crates in-house and it was taking too much time, the wood was taking up too much space, and the saws and dust were creating an unsafe work environment.

We worked with this customer to determine where we could remove some of the ad hoc decision-making at the plant level and centralize shipping crate procurement based on their historic as well as forward-looking crate size and quantity requirements.

The program was a combination of standard and custom SharkCrates that replaced 90% of the in-house crate building.  We coordinated with their freight company to pick up their monthly orders at one time and deliver them each individual plant.

In the end, the customer saved time and money, as he was able to sub out a part of production that was netting them negative value when weight against the opportunity cost of implementing his employees in more profitable work for the company.

Would you like to streamline your crate building?  Talk to us about your current sizes and usage and we’ll work with you to come up with a crating solution that saves you time and money.
