Simple Setup
From the Box to Your Garden in 3 Steps
No drills, no saws. Just a hammer to tap in two hinge pins — and your bed is ready in under 2 minutes.
Unfold & Form
Open the flat-packed collar and unfold the two hinged boards. Place the boards on a stable working surface and position the single-sided hinges together to form the full collar.
Tap in 2 Hinge Pins
Drive two hinge pins into the corner brackets with a hammer — that's it. The frame is locked rigid and ready to hold soil. Total setup time: under 2 minutes.
Fill, Plant & Grow
Line the bottom, fill with a quality raised-bed soil mix, and plant. The elevated bed warms up faster in spring, drains better after rain, and gives roots the loose soil they need.
Why Pallet Collar Beds?
Built Different. Grown Better.
Not all raised beds are created equal. Here's why pallet collar beds outperform plastic kits and rotting lumber every time.
Chemical-Free & Food-Safe Wood
Our boards are heat-treated (HT-certified), never chemically treated. Safe for vegetables, herbs, and fruits your family eats every day.
Modular & Stackable
Stack 2 collars for 15″ of soil depth — great for tomatoes and peppers. Stack 3 for 22.5″ — ideal for carrots and deep-rooted vegetables. All orders ship free to the lower 48 states.
Heavy-Duty Steel Corner Brackets
Powder-coated steel corners lock the frame rigid and hold the weight of saturated soil season after season. The hardware outlasts the wood — by years.
Faster Spring Starts
Raised beds warm 2–4 weeks earlier in spring than ground-level gardens, giving you a longer growing season and earlier harvests — especially valuable in the Midwest.
Easier on Your Back
Stack two or three collars to garden at a comfortable standing height. Easier on your back, accessible for kids, and simpler to maintain from planting to harvest.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What soil should I use in a pallet collar garden bed?
We recommend a raised-bed mix: roughly 60% topsoil, 30% compost, and 10% perlite or coarse sand. Pre-blended bags labeled "raised bed mix" from garden centers work great right out of the bag. Avoid using straight native ground soil — it compacts quickly in elevated containers.
Can I stack collars for more soil depth?
Yes. Two collars gives you 15″ of growing depth — plenty for tomatoes, peppers, and most vegetables. Three collars gets you 22.5″, which is ideal for deep-rooted crops like carrots and parsnips. All orders ship free to the lower 48 states. The corner brackets interlock between layers and hold everything rigid without any extra hardware.
Is the wood safe for growing food?
Yes. All SharkCrates boards are heat-treated (HT/ISPM-15 certified), not chemically treated. That means no arsenic, no copper azole, no fungicides — just clean, heat-sterilized pine that is completely safe for edible gardens.
How long will the wood last outdoors?
With normal use, pine pallet collar beds last 5–10 years. Applying a coat of food-safe linseed oil or wood sealant at the start of each season significantly extends board life. The powder-coated steel corners are rust-resistant and will outlast the wood by many years.
Do I need to line the bottom?
We recommend lining the bottom with cardboard or landscaping fabric when placing on grass or soil to suppress weeds. On concrete or pavers, a simple breathable liner prevents soil loss while maintaining drainage. Neither lining is required — it's just good gardening practice.
Do you make custom sizes?
Yes — we manufacture custom collar sizes on request. If you have a specific footprint in mind, contact us at info@sharkcrates.com or call 414-892-4202 and we'll get you a quote.
How fast will my order ship?
Most orders ship within 48 hours from our Milwaukee, WI warehouse. You'll receive a tracking number by email once your order leaves our facility. Questions? Call 414-892-4202 or email info@sharkcrates.com.
